Colombia’s new lineup features academy prospects ahead of 2030 qualifiers

In a move that signals a shift toward youth, Colombia’s senior side has been reshaped for upcoming friendlies in the United States. Long‑time winger Luis Diaz, currently with Bayern Munich, was left out following a joint decision for him to rest.

Coach Nestor Lorenzo introduced eleven players who have never worn the senior jersey, such as John Solis of Birmingham City and Genk defender Kevin Andre. The list also includes goalkeeper Eldayer Quintana, defender Roger Kaedo, midfielder Daniel Arkila, and forward Camilo Duran. Two Atletico Nacional products – left‑back Samuel Velasquez and midfielder Juan Manuel Rengifo – were also invited.

The team will meet Mexico in Baltimore on September 26, Paraguay in New Jersey on October 2, and Peru in Miami on October 6. Lorenzo plans to use the matches to evaluate talent before the South American qualifying round for the 2030 World Cup.

Retiring legend James Rodriguez, capped 131 times and scoring 31 goals, was commemorated by the coach, who underscored the player’s impact and the honour of his retirement decision.
