From Commonwealth Bronze to Asian Ambitions: Gulveer's Roadmap

India’s distance‑running champion Gulveer Singh turned a historic Commonwealth Games performance into a springboard for the Asian Games. In Birmingham, he recorded 13:24.95 for the 5000m to earn bronze and 27:49.78 for the 10,000m to capture silver – India’s first medals in those events at the Games.

Now set to compete in three distances – 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m – at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Singh is fine‑tuning his speed while maintaining his endurance base. He credits his coach, Scott Simmons, for dissecting the competition’s game plans and reshaping training sessions accordingly.

“The pressure will be there because Asian athletes are world‑class, but the Commonwealth medals gave me a huge confidence boost,” Singh said. He also highlighted the role of continuous government support that funds his overseas training, equipment and nutrition.

Gulveer’s journey illustrates how a breakthrough at the Commonwealth stage can translate into a focused medal drive on a larger continental platform.
