Cristiano Ronaldo achieved a new milestone in football history on Saturday, September 6. He surpassed Lionel Messi’s record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Portuguese star, at the age of 40, demonstrated his enduring prowess as he helped Portugal secure a decisive 5-0 victory against Armenia in Yerevan. Ronaldo’s performance, including a brace, brought his tally in World Cup qualifying matches to 38 goals, surpassing Messi’s previous record of 36. He now trails only Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz, who holds the top spot with 39 goals. Portugal’s dominance was further highlighted by a double from Joao Felix, who recently joined Al Nassr, and a goal from Joao Cancelo. Cancelo later paid tribute to his teammate Diogo Jota, who recently passed away in a tragic car accident. The win solidified Portugal’s position at the top of Group F as they continue their qualifying campaign. Their next match is scheduled against Hungary on Tuesday.
