CSK names ex‑fast bowler Jaheer Khan as new head coach ahead of 2027 season

Chennai Super Kings have officially brought former Indian left‑arm fast bowler Jaheer Khan on board as head coach for the 2027 IPL edition. The decision follows the departure of Stephen Fleming, who stepped down after the team missed the playoffs for three consecutive years.

Khan’s international résumé includes 311 Test wickets from 92 matches, 282 ODI wickets from 200 games, and a handful of T20 appearances. In the IPL he has turned out for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, tallying 102 wickets across 100 fixtures.

Owner Rupa Gurunath commended Khan’s extensive on‑field experience and his proven capability to mentor young pacers, noting that his guidance will help reinforce the franchise’s competitive edge. Khan previously served as a mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, headed cricket operations for Mumbai Indians, and led global development initiatives for the same team.

Earlier this year, Khan also led a fast‑bowling camp for India A, Under‑19 and other elite groups at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, underscoring his dedication to talent development.
