Dalip Trophy: Tilak Verma’s 51-Run Knock Propels South Zone Past North

Bengaluru, September 2 – South Zone’s path to the Dalip Trophy final was cemented after a disciplined chase of 182 runs against North Zone. The team lost just three wickets, with captain Tilak Verma delivering a powerful 51‑run knock that anchored the innings.

Riki Bhu and N Jagadish opened the batting, combining for a steady 64‑run partnership. Jagadish’s 43 came from a stretch of five fours, while Bhu added 42 before being dismissed by Gurunur Barar. Shekhar Rashid’s brief cameo produced a solitary run before his wicket fell.

The partnership between Tilak Verma and Samaroon Ravichandran proved unbreakable, as they added 80 runs for the fourth wicket without losing their own. Tilak, fresh from a century in the first innings, faced 79 deliveries and struck eight fours. Samaroon contributed a steady 32 runs, hitting four fours and a six, and remained not out.

North Zone’s first innings concluded at 175 runs, with Kamaran Iqbal’s 76 topping the scorecard. Vidwanth Kaverappa emerged as South Zone’s most successful bowler, taking four wickets. South Zone’s reply of 312 runs featured Tilak’s 116 and Shreyas Gopal’s 87, delivering a 117‑run advantage. Gurunur Barar again led the North’s bowling, securing four wickets.

In the second innings, North Zone managed 297 runs before being bowled out. Sanat Sangwan’s 76 and Ayush Dosaja’s 52 were the highlights. MD Nidhish’s five‑wicket spell (5/56) helped South Zone clinch the match, sending them to the final against East Zone on September 6.
