Debut double-century chase: Herman, D'Jorg lead SA to 348

South Africa’s debut match of the September ODI series saw a monumental 348‑run total, anchored by Jordan Herman’s maiden 150.

The left‑handed batter, playing his first international, faced 126 balls and collected three sixes and 17 fours.

His innings not only matched Matthew Breetzke’s 150 on debut but also placed him alongside the sole South African to achieve the feat. The record list also features West Indies’ Desmond Haynes, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz and India’s KL Rahul.

After a toss loss, the Proteas lost their first wicket at 27 runs – Cornor Esterhuyzen was caught for ten. The partnership between Herman and Tony de Jorg added 190 runs for the second wicket, taking the score well beyond the 200‑run barrier.

De Jorg contributed 72 runs before being dismissed, and Herman’s partnership with Devald Bravis added another 58 runs. A further 41 runs came from Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten 39 in concert with Jason Smith’s 15, sending the total past three hundred.

Namibia’s most successful bowler, Ruben Trumpelmann, claimed four scalps, while Jere Smite and Gerhard Irasmus each dismissed a batsman. The series, slated for 9, 11 and 13 September, now sees South Africa seeking to maintain its opening‑match lead.
