Debut Heroics: Niki Prasad Guides India Women to T20 Win Over Zimbabwe

The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur became the stage for a dramatic finish on October 16, as the Indian women's side chased down 115 runs to defeat Zimbabwe by four wickets.

Zimbabwe, after electing to bat, posted 114 for five. The innings lost momentum when Bilwidd Bija was out for a golden duck. Kelis Nadhilov and Modester Mupachikwa built a steady opening partnership, adding 53 runs before Mupachikwa's dismissal at 16. Sharne Meyers' aggressive 43 off 33 balls and Nadhilov's 42, which featured six sixes, pushed the total just beyond the hundred‑run barrier.

India stumbled early, losing captain Smriti Mhandana for nine and Anushka Sharma soon after, leaving the chase at a precarious 19 for three after 3.1 overs. The debutant Niki Prasad, however, steadied the innings. Alongside Deepti Sharma, she forged a 63‑ball, 82‑run stand that brought India close to the target. Sharma, who fell short of a half‑century with 49 runs, struck eight fours. Prasad then finished unbeaten on 39 from 35 balls, hitting six fours, and sealed the win with 4.4 overs remaining.

The Indian bowlers performed well too. Nandini Sharma's figures read 4‑0‑11‑2, while Shri Charani claimed 1‑0‑14‑1. Kranti Goud and Arundhati Reddy each added a wicket. From Zimbabwe's side, Nyasha Gwanjura stood out with three wickets for 18 runs.
