The Delhi Premier League (DPL), initiated in 2024 by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), has quickly become a prominent domestic T20 league in India. The primary objective of the DPL is to give young cricketers a stage to showcase their abilities. Rohan Jaitley, the DDCA president, played a crucial role in establishing the league. The second edition of the league features a mix of seasoned professionals and rising stars. The DPL operates on a franchise model, similar to the IPL, with high-quality broadcasts, digital streaming, and comprehensive media coverage contributing to its expanding popularity. The DPL has successfully provided opportunities for players who previously lacked visibility. Players like Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya have gained recognition through the DPL and were subsequently scouted for the Indian Premier League, achieving success on the national level. The league’s expansion this season, with the addition of two new teams, has increased opportunities for aspiring cricketers. The league comprises eight teams: Purani Dilli 6, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and Outer Delhi Warriors. The 2025 DPL includes notable players like Nitish Rana, Harshit Rana, Lalit Yadav, Priyansh Arya, and Digvesh Rathi, fresh from their 2025 IPL season. The league has drawn significant crowds, with the previous year’s final attracting over 22,000 spectators, a record for any state-level league in India.
