Dilpreet Singh Scores Four as India Rout Indonesia at Nagoya

Nagoya, 20 September – India’s men’s field hockey squad delivered a masterclass at the Asian Games, overwhelming Indonesia 13‑1 in their Group A debut. Dilpreet Singh emerged as the star, netting four goals, while seven teammates also contributed.

The match opened with Shilanan Lakda converting a rebound off Hermanpreet Singh’s drag‑flick in the sixth minute. Abhishek added a second goal at twelve minutes, and the team finished the first quarter 2‑0.

Dilpreet’s scoring spree began in the second quarter, where he found the net in the 18th and 19th minutes. Rajinder Singh and Mandeep Singh added goals before the break, leaving India with a 7‑0 lead at halftime.

Indonesia’s first strike came in the third quarter when captain Aulia Al Ard turned a penalty corner into a goal at the 33rd minute, reducing the deficit to 7‑1 after a video referral.

India answered instantly: Lakda scored again in the 35th minute, Dilpreet completed his hat‑trick by the 37th, and Sukjeet Singh struck in the 38th, extending the margin to 10‑1.

The final period saw Jugraj Singh score from a second penalty corner in the 47th minute, Sukjeet added another in the 48th, and Dilpreet sealed his four‑goal haul in the 49th minute. The match ended 13‑1, and the next challenge for India is Sri Lanka on 22 September.
