ECB confirms Flintoff’s replacement for upcoming four‑day match

Bekham, 12 August – The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Mike Yardy will replace Andrew Flintoff for the professional county club select eleven’s four‑day match against Pakistan, scheduled to begin on 12 August. Flintoff stepped away from the England Lions coaching role to join the Sydney Thunder, prompting the need for an interim appointment.

Yardie, a former England batsman, will lead the side in what is expected to be a competitive encounter, providing an opportunity for domestic players to showcase their skills against an international opponent. The ECB stated that the change will not affect the overall preparation of the Lions, as the development programme remains on track.

Eddie Barna, ECB performance director, reiterated his appreciation for Flintoff’s contributions to the Lions and expressed confidence in Yardy’s ability to guide the team through the match. The board also highlighted the continued focus on nurturing young talent across all levels of English cricket.
