The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced its squads for the white-ball series against South Africa and the T20I matches against Ireland. England will play 3 ODIs and an equal number of T20 series against South Africa at home. The ODI series will begin on September 2 at Headingley. The England team will also tour Ireland this month, where they will play 3 T20 matches. For this series, the England Cricket Board has announced a new captain.
21-Year-Old Player to be Made Captain
The England team will play against South Africa with a full-strength squad. Harry Brook will captain the team in both series. Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root will play against South Africa. However, all-format players have been rested for the Ireland tour. As a result, Jacob Bethell will lead the team on this tour. 21-year-old Jacob Bethell has been made the captain of the England team for the first time. Jacob Bethell, while leading the team in Dublin, will become the youngest captain of the England men’s team in any international match.
Except for Bethell, all Test format players have been rested for the T20 series against Ireland. Marcus Trescothick will play the role of head coach for that series. England men’s team selector Luke Wright said, ‘Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities while with the England team, and the series against Ireland will provide him with an opportunity to further hone his skills on the international stage.’
