Former Cup Hero Nkunku Rejoins Leipzig, Option to Stay Permanently

After a three‑year absence, Christopher Nkunku is back at RB Leipzig on loan from AC Milan, with the German side holding an option to sign him permanently. The French forward was instrumental in Leipzig’s consecutive DFB‑Pokal victories in 2022 and 2023.

Nkunku told reporters that the chance to return felt like the right step for his career. He described himself as fully fit and ready to make an immediate impact, adding that he misses performing in front of the Red Bull Arena crowd.

Marcel Schaefer, Leipzig’s sporting director, said the club is delighted to have Nkunku return, praising his decisive qualities and his familiarity with the club’s culture. Schaefer also noted that Nkunku explicitly expressed his desire to play for Leipzig again, despite interest from other major clubs.

The forward’s resume includes four clubs: Paris Saint‑Germain (2015‑19), RB Leipzig (2019‑23), Chelsea (2023‑25) and AC Milan (2025). He has amassed 271 senior matches and 73 goals, while representing France on 18 occasions, scoring twice.
