Controversy erupts as Glasgow diner’s map omits Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast

Mr Singh India, a popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow that has catered to sports teams for over three decades, came under criticism after it distributed napkins bearing an outline map of India that left out the Northeastern region and a large portion of Jammu and Kashmir. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who recently won a bronze medal at the Olympics, was the first to voice her disappointment, insisting that every Indian state must be visible on any representation of the country.

Ajay Singh of the Boxing Federation of India echoed the concern, noting that the map’s inaccuracies could be seen as a disregard for India’s territorial integrity. He called on the restaurant to pull the erroneous napkins and replace them with a revised version that accurately reflects all regions. The establishment has yet to provide an official statement.

The incident coincided with the Commonwealth Games 2026, where Indian athletes have claimed 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals, keeping the nation in fourth place overall.
