Government backs cycling drive in Surat to curb youth drug use

On September 6, Surat will become the focal point of India’s anti‑drug campaign as the 89th "Fit India Sunday on Cycle" event kicks off. The theme, "Drug‑Free Youth, Developed India," reflects the central government's intent to blend sport, fitness and civic engagement.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will spearhead the initiative, with Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi in attendance. The morning ride starts at 6 a.m. from the Sardar Patel statue at Mangadh Chowk and proceeds via Mini Market and Varacha Main Road before concluding at Sarthana Zoo.

Participants will include celebrated athletes like Padma Shri archer Achanta Sharath Kamal, Commonwealth Games medalist Rahul Man and wrestling star Shivani Pawar. Their involvement aims to inspire the younger crowd to choose active, drug‑free lifestyles, reinforcing the Prime Minister’s call for a healthier nation.
