    New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has today presented the interim plan for the year 2023-2024. This year, Olympics are also to be held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August. In such a situation, this time everyone’s eyes were on what the Sports Ministry gets from the budget in the year of Olympics. Let us tell you that this time the Modi government has announced a budget of Rs 3,442.32 crore for sports and players, which is Rs 45 crore more than the budget presented last year.

    Let us tell you that out of the Rs 3442.32 crore allocated to the Sports Ministry, Rs 900 crore has been allocated to Khelo India. Apart from this, Rs 822 crore has been allocated to Sports Authority of India. Whereas Rs 249.55 crore has been allocated for the National Service Scheme. 340 crores have been allocated to Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare of Sports Persons.

    Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during her budget speech, “The country is proud of our youth who are scaling new heights in sports. The highest ever medal tally in the Asian Games and Asian Para Games in 2023 shows high confidence level. Chess legend and our number 1 player Praggnanandhaa gave a tough fight against the current world champion Magnus Carlsen in 2023. Today, there are more than 80 chess grandmasters in India, whereas in 2010 the number was just over 20.

    This time there was an increase of Rs 45 crore

    A budget of Rs 3,442.32 crore has been announced for the year 2024-25, which is Rs 45 crore more than the budget presented last year. Last year, the Central Government had presented a budget of Rs 3397.32 crore for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, which was Rs 723.97 crore more than the budget for the year 2022. In the year 2022 also, the sports budget was increased by Rs 423.16 crore. This year, Olympics are also to be held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August. In such a situation, the focus of the Sports Ministry and the Central Government is completely on the preparations of the athletes for the Olympics.

    Sports budget of last 4 years

    2020-21 – 2826.92 crore 2021-22 – 2250.19 crore 2022-23 – 2673.35 crore 2023-24 – 3397.32 crore

    Increase in the budget of Sports Authority of India (SAI)

    This year, Sports Authority of India has received Rs 795.77 crore for 2024-25, which is Rs 10.25 crore more than last year. In the year 2023-24, Rs 785.52 crore was allocated to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

    Khelo India budget cut

    The Sports Ministry itself bears the expenses of competition and practice abroad for the preparation of all multi-sports including the Olympics. The budget for the year 2023-24 for Khelo India was increased to Rs 1000 crore. Whereas for the year 2024-25, Khelo India has received Rs 900 crore. This cut of Rs 100 crore has been made.

    Increase in budget for national sports federations

    National sports federations were given Rs 325 crore in the budget for the year 2023-24. The Sports Ministry has set a budget of Rs 340 crore for national sports federations in the year 2024-25, which is Rs 15 crore more than last year.

    Provision for NADA and NDTL also

    For the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) affiliated to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), NADA has received Rs 22.30 crore and NDTL has received Rs 22 crore in the budget for 2024-25.

    Sports University received Rs 91.90 crore

    Countries around the world are striving for sports excellence and paying more attention to sports science and scientific training of athletes. A provision of Rs 10 crore was also made for the National Sports Science and Research Center in the sports budget for the year 2023-24. This year it has been reduced to Rs 8 crore. At the same time, National Sports University had received Rs 83.21 crore in the budget of 2023-24, which has been increased to Rs 91.90 crore this year.
