ICC imposes 15-month ineligibility on UAE player Asif Khan

In a statement released on Thursday, the International Cricket Council imposed a 15‑month period of ineligibility on Asif Khan, the UAE’s leading right‑hand batsman, after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid mestrolone. The substance was identified in a urine sample taken after an out‑of‑competition test dated 8 September 2025, breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti‑Doping Code.

Khan entered a case‑resolution agreement with the World Anti‑Doping Agency and the ICC, accepting the sanction without the option to appeal. Consequently, all his performances from 8 September 2025 up to his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been annulled, removing any medals, ranking points or prize earnings accrued in that interval.

The player may resume training at the Emirates’ designated facility from 8 October, but he will remain barred from competitive fixtures until 8 December. Khan, who moved from Pakistan’s domestic leagues (2007‑2014) to represent the UAE in 2017, has accumulated 38 ODI appearances and 56 T20 internationals, scoring 1,270 and 1,302 runs respectively since his debut in 2022.
