ICC shifts 2027 Women’s Champions Trophy to India, Sri Lanka commits assistance

In a recent announcement, the International Cricket Council transferred the 2027 Women’s Champions Trophy to India after reviewing Sri Lanka’s cricket governance structure. The decision was based on ICC rules that prohibit political appointments within member boards.

Sri Lanka Cricket responded by stating that, although it will not be the host nation, it accepts the ICC’s ruling and will continue to provide support to the tournament and its own qualified women's side.

The competition will run from 14 to 28 February, with matches hosted in two Indian cities. Six teams – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka – will compete, and the top two will contest the final.

SLC stressed that its priority remains the development of women’s cricket in the country, and it will work closely with the ICC and Indian organizers to ensure a successful event.
