The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, commencing on September 9. This tournament serves as a crucial warm-up for next year’s T20 World Cup and will showcase a blend of established players and emerging talents within the Indian team.
Suryakumar Yadav will captain the side, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. Their leadership will be pivotal in what promises to be a highly competitive Asia Cup.
Key decisions include the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Iyer’s absence is notable given his experience, Jaiswal’s omission suggests a preference for Abhishek Sharma’s recent form. The middle order appears strong with Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh, offering both stability and power. The inclusion of Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube provides versatile all-round options, while Axar Patel adds further balance.
Jitesh Sharma has been selected as wicket-keeper, recognized for his consistent performance. The bowling attack features Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav’s experience, complemented by the pace of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. The addition of Varun Chakaravarthy adds variety to the bowling unit.
This squad presents a combination of youth and experience. Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy will be tested, while players like Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Harshit Rana will aim to make an impact. The selectors have made bold choices, leaving out established names. The success of these decisions will be determined during the tournament.
