India climbs to fourth place on CWG medal table

The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow saw India surge to the fourth position on the medal leaderboard, a remarkable jump from its previous tenth-place standing. The leap was driven by a total haul of 39 medals, including a record seven golds in boxing.

PT Usha, the Indian Olympic Association president, attributed the progress to the combined effort of athletes, coaches, medical personnel and government support. She highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in acknowledging returning athletes and ensuring they receive necessary resources.

Usha expressed that witnessing the national anthem play for each gold medal winner is an “unforgettable” experience, reflecting both personal and national pride. The success demonstrates the effectiveness of India’s sports ecosystem, which integrates coaching, physiotherapy, nutrition, and mental conditioning.
