India Braces for Test Series After Injury Concerns in Colombo Warm-up

Colombo’s Nondescripts ground became the backdrop for a worrying development for Team India. Shubman Gill, who captains the side, injured his right‑hand ring finger in a practice drill on Thursday.

The BCCI announced on its official social channel that Gill will be absent from the first day of the three‑day warm‑up against Sri Lanka’s eleven. KL Rahul stepped up to lead the side for the toss.

The warm‑up holds particular significance because only Rahul and all‑rounder Ravindra Jadeja have previously visited Sri Lanka with the Test squad. The match is intended to help the players adapt to local conditions before the two‑match Test series that kicks off on August 15.

India’s form in recent Test cricket has been below expectations, and the upcoming series is seen as an opportunity to climb the World Test Championship rankings, where they currently occupy the fifth slot, trailing Sri Lanka in sixth.

Team doctors continue to assess Gill’s injury, and the board hopes the situation will not affect his availability for the main series.
