India Wins Multiple Golds at U23 Asian Wrestling

The U23 Asian Wrestling Championship in Vietnam turned into a medal spree for Indian athletes as freestyle wrestlers Akshay T. Dhere and Vicky claimed gold in the 57kg and 97kg categories. Akshay defeated Kazakhstan's Yeleman Amangeldi 4-2, while Vicky edged out Uzbekistan's Sherzod Poyonov 7-5 in closely contested finals. The women's freestyle squad matched the momentum with four gold medals. Muskan overpowered Vietnam's Thi Mai Linh Nguyen 6-2 in the 53kg final. Tapsya dominated Kazakhstan's Altyn Shagayeva to win by fall in the 57kg event. Bhagyashree and Pulkit also triumphed in their weight classes, defeating opponents from Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. Amrita Shashikant Pujari settled for silver in the 72kg category after a narrow 2-4 loss in the final. Earlier successes by Mansi Lathar, Kajal, and Sumit brought the gold tally to seven. Additional silver medals were won by Swati and Neha, while three bronze medals came from Ahalya S. Shinde, Neeraj Patel, and Rohit Bura. These results underline India's growing strength in youth wrestling. The blend of technical skill and competitive temperament displayed by the athletes signals a promising future. National federations are expected to build on this success through targeted training programs ahead of upcoming global events.
