Ministers Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Harbhajan Singh also arrived at the ETO on behalf of the Punjab government to welcome the players. Four players from Amritsar—Harmanpreet Singh (team captain), Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Germanjit Singh—played important roles in this Olympic team.
After the felicitation ceremony at the airport, all the players of the team reached Sri Harimandir Sahib, where they bowed down and took blessings. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami, who came to meet the players at the Golden Temple, congratulated them on their great success. He said, “All of you have brought glory to the country with your sports. It is a matter of pride for Punjab that 10 players from here played in the Olympics and returned with medals.”
This moment was extremely special for the players and their families. Not just Punjab, but the entire country appreciated their unique effort, and the reception in Amritsar was a testament to their hard work and dedication.
