Injuries Couldn’t Stop Rohit Tokas – Bronze Medal at 2022 Commonwealth Games
The story of Indian boxer Rohit Tokas is a testament to perseverance. Born in 1993, he first learned boxing at a neighborhood academy that offered free training. A turning point arrived when a schoolmate challenged him to a shadow‑boxing bout; the defeat shook him, yet it also sparked an intense training regime that saw him clinch the Delhi state title. By 2011 he had captured gold at the National Boxing Championship and silver at the Cuban Youth Olympic Games. However, recurring knee injuries in 2018 and again before the Tokyo Olympics hindered his progress, leading to two surgeries and a lingering infection. After a robust run at the national qualifiers—where he upset seasoned contender Ashish Kumar—Tokas qualified for the Olympics, but his knee gave way once more. Refusing to abandon his dream of representing India, he set his sights on the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Even as his physiotherapist struggled to manage fresh knee swelling and painful blisters, Tokas stepped into the ring, delivered a disciplined performance, and earned a bronze medal, proudly showcasing his five‑point punch to the world.
