From Injury to Fitness: Chakravarti’s Road to the 2026 Asian Games
Varun Chakravarti’s journey back to peak form has become a talking point as India prepares for the Asian Games in Japan. The spinner, who missed several fixtures due to a lingering injury, disclosed that an intensive strength‑training and running programme helped him regain confidence.
“The injury was a hurdle, but I emerged feeling stronger,” Chakravarti explained. “The coaching staff, particularly the chief operating officer, ensured I had the right support and facilities.”
He recounted how he entered the international arena relatively late, at 28, and now regards himself as being in the early half of his cricketing career. This perspective fuels his ambition to continue adding new deliveries to his arsenal while refining the ones he already masters.
Regarding the upcoming Asian Games, Chakravarti emphasized the need for adaptability. “Japanese pitches may be slower and the weather unpredictable. Our bowling unit will tailor its approach after assessing each condition on the ground.”
He also addressed the myth of secret weapons, noting that modern high‑definition cameras capture every nuance of a bowler’s action. “The key is the human element – keeping the batsman guessing despite the technology,” he said.
Looking ahead, Chakravarti prefers to concentrate on short‑term targets, planning his training and performance objectives for the next half‑year rather than mapping out a five‑year horizon.
