Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has lauded Arshdeep Singh, acknowledging his transformation into a top-tier white-ball bowler. However, Pathan has also identified Khaleel Ahmed as the next promising left-arm fast bowler, highlighting Ahmed’s impressive performance during his stint with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the recent IPL season. Arshdeep has been a key player for India’s T20 team over the past two years, playing a pivotal role in their 2024 T20 World Cup victory. He is currently on the verge of reaching 100 wickets in T20Is. Pathan, speaking on Revsportz, pinpointed the key attributes of a successful left-arm pacer, including the ability to consistently bowl at 135-140 kmph, swing the ball both ways, and deliver effective bouncers, suggesting that Khaleel possesses all these qualities. Pathan believes Khaleel is a strong contender, having improved his pace, seam position, slow bouncers, and fitness. Although Khaleel last played for India in a T20I against Sri Lanka, he has since significantly enhanced his game and emerged as CSK’s leading wicket-taker in the previous IPL season, particularly excelling in the powerplay overs. Pathan, 27, believes Khaleel is currently at his peak and capable of performing under pressure, stating that his recent IPL performance showcased his potential. Despite Pathan’s endorsement, Khaleel was not selected for the Asia Cup 2025.
