Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has shed light on his absence from India’s upcoming ODI squad for the series against Australia. The experienced player, a vital part of India’s recent Champions Trophy success, was surprisingly left out of the 15-member team for the three-match tour commencing October 19, 2025. Selectors have opted for a spin contingent including Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav, alongside Jadeja’s continued presence in Tests.
Speaking after the second day’s play in the ongoing Test against West Indies, Jadeja confirmed the decision wasn’t a bolt from the blue. He revealed he had an open dialogue with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and ODI captain Shubman Gill, who clearly communicated the strategic reasoning behind the selection.
“I want to play, but ultimately, the team management, selectors, coach, and captain have their own perspectives,” Jadeja stated. He emphasized the value of this communication, noting, “There must be a reason behind it, and they talked to me. It’s not as if they surprised me when I learned I wasn’t selected. It’s a positive sign that the captain, selector, and coach discussed the reasons with me.”
Despite this ODI setback, Jadeja remains committed to contributing to the Indian team whenever the opportunity arises. His current focus is on performing in the Test arena, as demonstrated by his three wickets on day two of the current Test match against the West Indies. His contributions helped restrict the visitors, leaving them trailing significantly.
