Karun Nair’s resilient performance in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval has drawn accolades, with former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik highlighting the significance of his innings. Nair, brought into the team in place of Shardul Thakur, delivered an unbeaten 52, providing a much-needed boost to the Indian batting lineup. The challenging conditions, characterized by a green pitch and overcast skies, made Nair’s effort all the more commendable. His innings marked his first fifty-plus score since his historic 303 against England in Chennai in 2016. Karthik observed that Nair’s performance has revived his international career, stating that the team management might have looked beyond him if he hadn’t played this Test. The innings helped India reach 204 for six at stumps on Day 1.
