Keshav Maharaj stars with four wickets as SA dominates

Spin ace Keshav Maharaj emerged as the pick of the bowlers in Durban, claiming four wickets as South Africa dismissed Australia for 230 runs in the first ODI.

Australia’s innings began well, with opening pair Michael Marsh and Travis Head adding 90 runs in just over nine overs. Marsh’s 60 came off 36 deliveries, featuring six sixes and five fours, while Head contributed 39.

Maharaj broke the partnership by removing Travis Head, and then struck out Nathan Ellis, who had earlier taken three wickets for the visitors. In total, Maharaj’s disciplined line and length produced four dismissals, keeping the Australian run‑rate in check.

Supporting him, bowlers such as Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood picked up one wicket each, while South Africa’s fielding held tight.

The 67‑run win, powered by both a solid batting total of 297 and Maharaj’s bowling, gave South Africa a 1‑0 edge in the three‑match series. The next ODIs are slated for 27 and 30 September.
