The Indian Test team is embarking on a new chapter with Shubman Gill as captain and Rishabh Pant as his deputy, marking the start of a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. This transition follows the retirements of seasoned players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. KL Rahul, a senior member and former stand-in captain, shared his immediate reaction to Gill’s appointment, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective responsibility for the team’s success.
Rahul revealed that he contacted Gill immediately after the captaincy announcement, offering his support and guidance. He highlighted the need to allow Gill to lead with his instincts while assuring his availability for any assistance. The series against England presents a significant challenge for the younger team, with new players like Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh also receiving their first Test call-ups and Karun Nair returning to the squad.
India’s previous Test series in England ended in a 2-2 tie. The team is now keen to complete unfinished business and make a strong statement in the new WTC cycle under the new leadership.
