From Knee Injury to Commonwealth Podium: Seema Kaliraman’s Journey

A devastating knee injury threatened to end Seema Kaliraman’s athletic aspirations. The injury sidelined her for over three years, during which she completed part of her doctorate and gave birth to her son, Rudra.

Undeterred, she underwent rigorous rehabilitation, gradually rebuilding strength and technique. In 2024, after an 11‑month hiatus, she returned to competition and posted a new personal record of 57.19 m, later extending it to 59.73 m at the Indian Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Her resurgence peaked at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where she threw a bronze‑winning distance despite only two valid attempts in the final. The medal marks a triumphant return to international competition and underscores her resilience.

Beyond the podium, the achievement secures her a berth at the 2026 Asian Games, positioning her as a key contender for India’s discus squad.
