How Lovepreet Singh’s Performance Boosted India’s Weightlifting Tally
The Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow saw Lovepreet Singh add a silver medal to India’s weightlifting achievements. Competing in the 110+ kg class, Singh lifted a total of 388 kg, just one kilogram shy of the gold-winning total posted by New Zealand’s David Liti (389 kg). England’s Andrew Griffiths rounded out the podium with 356 kg.
During the snatch, Lovepreet executed three successful lifts: 168 kg, 173 kg and a final 176 kg, establishing a ten‑kilogram advantage over Liti’s best snatch. In the clean and jerk, he posted 205 kg and 212 kg, before attempting a 217 kg lift that did not succeed. Liti’s decisive clean and jerk of 223 kg, combined with a 166 kg snatch, secured his gold.
Singh’s disciplined training, which began at age 13 in Punjab and progressed through national camps, has now translated into a major international medal. His silver enhances India’s overall standing at the Games and sets a strong foundation for future contests.
