Madrid’s striker overhaul: Espi arrives as Garcia’s €40 million Fulham move looms

Real Madrid’s transfer window is taking shape with the arrival of Dutch league star Carlos Espi. The club confirmed that the 21‑year‑old forward has signed a five‑year deal, with a transfer fee of roughly €25 million paid to Bayer Leverkusen.

Espi’s statistical record – 20 goals in 66 games for Leverkusen, including a 13‑goal haul in 27 matches during the most recent campaign – made him a hot prospect for clubs across Europe. His performances earned him the Ere Ere Under‑23 Player of the Year award and helped his former side avoid relegation.

Simultaneously, Madrid is close to completing the sale of forward Gonçalo Garcia to Fulham for about €40 million. The timing suggests Espi is being positioned as a long‑term replacement, providing the Spanish side with a youthful option while generating funds for other squad reinforcements.

The club has not indicated if Espi will train with the senior squad immediately or be loaned out for regular first‑team minutes.
