Manu Bhakar recalls debut at 2018 Asian Games as she leads 2026 opening

When Manu Bhakar first appeared at the Asian Games in Jakarta 2018, she was just 16 and could not participate in the opening ceremony due to scheduling constraints. Her coach, Jaspal Sir, had advised that without a flag‑bearing role, there was little merit in attending the ceremony.

Now, as the appointed flag bearer for the 2026 Games in Nagoya, Bhakar recalled that early experience, noting the contrast with her present role. “I first felt the excitement of a ceremony at the Commonwealth Games, but being a flag bearer at the Asian Games is a whole new level of thrill,” she said.

She added that the shooting events begin the day after the opening ceremony, making the appearance both symbolic and challenging for athletes.
