Mohammad Rizwan, a seasoned Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman, faced scrutiny following his performance in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). After being notably excluded from the Asia Cup T20 team, Rizwan joined the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the CPL. The deal, reportedly worth crores of rupees, has raised questions about his role in the team, particularly after a lackluster performance against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on August 24th. The Patriots, batting first, struggled to reach 150 runs, managing only 133 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Rizwan’s contribution was a mere 30 runs off 26 balls, leaving fans and critics questioning his impact. This was his second match in the CPL, and he had previously scored only 3 runs in his first match. The expectations were high, given the substantial contract, but his performance did not reflect the value of the deal. Reports suggest the deal was worth 1.40 crore in Indian rupees, or 4.51 crore in Pakistani rupees. The Patriots, who won the CPL in 2021, are currently struggling in the 2025 season, sitting in fourth place in the points table. Rizwan was brought in to bolster the team, especially after the selection of Fazalhaq Farooqi for the Afghanistan team. However, his performance has not met expectations, with the Falcons ultimately winning the match by seven wickets, chasing down the target of 134 runs.
