India secured its fifth consecutive victory in the 2025 Asia Cup, defeating Bangladesh by 41 runs in a crucial Super-4 match and earning a spot in the final. Sri Lanka has been eliminated from the tournament. The upcoming match between Bangladesh and Pakistan on September 25 is essentially a semi-final, with the winner advancing to the final. Amidst these developments, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has ignited controversy by posting an image on social media, perceived as taking a dig at India. His actions have drawn widespread criticism.
Naqvi’s controversial post featured an image of football legend Cristiano Ronaldo gesturing as if he were piloting an airplane. This post has been interpreted as a deliberate provocation against India.
Social media has been buzzing with reactions. One fan wrote, “If ICC has any shame left, they should ban Pakistan cricket for 2 years. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi openly mocked India by putting this pic intentionally, this is unacceptable.”
Previously, Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf faced criticism for a similar gesture during a Super-4 match, to which Team India player Arshdeep Singh responded. India’s victory over Bangladesh secures their place in the Asia Cup final, scheduled for September 28, where they will face either Bangladesh or Pakistan.
The upcoming match between Pakistan and Bangladesh is critical, with the victor progressing to the final. There’s a possibility of a third India-Pakistan clash in the tournament, although a final match between the two teams has never occurred in the Asia Cup before.
