Nottinghamshire bolsters bowling attack with Mukesh Kumar for 2026 season close

New Delhi, 14 September – Nottinghamshire has secured the services of Indian fast‑bowling talent Mukesh Kumar for the concluding two matches of the 2026 County Championship. The club’s announcement on Monday underlines its intent to strengthen the pace department as the league heads into its most critical phase.

Earlier coverage on 30 August suggested that both Mukesh Kumar and senior Indian pacer Mohammad Shami were being eyed for similar roles in the championship’s final weeks, with Shami also expected to sign a contract.

At 32, Kumar brings a tally of 32 wickets from 26 international appearances, including three Tests. This will be his first time representing a domestic side beyond Indian borders, offering him exposure to the rigors of English county cricket.

“Being part of Nottinghamshire at such a decisive juncture is a privilege,” Kumar commented. “I am eager to experience English conditions, contribute to the team’s objectives, and collaborate with the coaching staff and my new teammates.”

In the IPL, he turned out for Delhi Capitals, compiling 233 wickets across 61 first‑class matches at an average of 21.79, and achieved ten instances of five wickets in an innings. After playing a key role in East Zone’s Duleep Trophy victory in Chennai, he arrives in England fully primed.

Coach Peter Moores welcomed the deal, noting Kumar’s recent high‑intensity form and his instrumental performance in the Duleep Trophy final. Moores highlighted that adding a player of Kumar’s calibre before the season’s climax provides Nottinghamshire with a competitive edge.
