ODI Rankings Update: Afghanistan Surpasses Sri Lanka, England Slips

Dubai, November 2: In a significant shift in the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, Afghanistan has reached sixth place for the first time. The team has overtaken Sri Lanka, while England has dropped in the standings.

Afghanistan's journey in international cricket began with its ODI debut in 2009. Since then, the team has improved quickly and has now moved ahead of Bangladesh, England and West Indies as well.

The ranking reflects a consistent record in the 50-over format. Afghanistan has won 96 of the 191 ODIs it has played.

At the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Afghanistan delivered historic wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These performances demonstrated the team's ability to compete with more experienced opponents at the highest level.

The side's development is not limited to ODIs. Afghanistan also reached the semifinals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time in its history.

Its recent form has added to its growing reputation. Afghanistan won a series against Ireland 4-0 and then went unbeaten through a tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, lifting the title. More recently, it defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in a T20 series.

India remains at the top of the ICC ODI rankings with 115 points. New Zealand is second with 109 points. South Africa and Pakistan are placed third and fourth with 104 points each, while Australia is fifth with 102 points.

Afghanistan is sixth with 94 points and Sri Lanka is seventh with the same total. England has slipped to eighth with 93 points. Bangladesh is ninth with 81 points and West Indies is 10th with 79 points.
