Pakistan’s Pace Void Prompts Rauf’s Push for Inclusion

New Delhi (Sept 17) — Pakistan’s Test side, once feared for its speed department, now lacks a bowler capable of regularly delivering 140 kph. Hariss Rauf, a 32‑year‑old right‑arm quick, believes his recent domestic performances could close that gap.

Rauf’s latest spell in the President’s Trophy Grade‑1 competition produced a five‑for 34 off 13 overs, marking his third such haul in first‑class cricket. Speaking to a departmental video, he said, “I have a clear goal: to make the Sri Lanka series squad. The team needs a genuine fast bowler, and I want to be that option.”

He highlighted the importance of playing longer formats, noting a four‑day stint last season and a spell in Grade‑II before the Australia ODIs. Rauf’s solitary Test experience came in 2022 against England at Rawalpindi, where he claimed one wicket before an injury forced him out. The fast bowler is counting on the remaining President’s Trophy matches to keep his name in contention.
