Pathan sees West Indies series as testing ground for new Indian talent

In a candid video shared on his X account, Irfan Pathan described the forthcoming three‑match ODI series against the West Indies as a strategic platform for India’s younger players. He highlighted that the overlap with the Asian Games T20 competition has forced the board to field an expanded squad, giving opportunities to cricketers like Naman Dhir, Akib Nabi, and Neetish Kumar Reddy.

Pathan praised Dhir’s off‑spin capabilities, pointing out that India has been short of quality spin options after the unavailability of Washington Sundar and the injury concerns surrounding Riyan Parag. "The Asian Games have taken some senior names out of the side, so this series becomes crucial for youngsters to showcase their all‑round skills," he said.

He also reiterated his support for Yashasvi Jaiswal, calling him the “third opener” who must be handed sufficient innings to develop a rhythm before the 2027 World Cup. Pathan believes that the series will not only test Jaiswal’s consistency but also allow the coaching staff to evaluate the bench strength in real match conditions.
