PCB Confirms Two-Year Tenure for New Batting Coach Michael Smith

The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially confirmed a two‑year appointment for Michael Smith as the new batting coach of the national side. Smith, a former South African first‑class player, will join the squad on 19 August, just before the three‑match Test series against England.

Smith’s coaching résumé includes assistant duties with Multan Sultans, staff positions with Islamabad United and Karachi Kings in the PSL, and overseas assignments with Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania. He has also acted as a coaching consultant for KZN Inland and Eastern Province in South Africa.

Pakistan’s test batting has been under scrutiny after a string of low scores and an ICC ranking of ninth. The team has not won an overseas test in eight attempts and recently struggled to chase a modest target of 211 against West Indies. PCB hopes Smith’s expertise will reverse the trend and keep the side on track for a place in the 2027 World Test Championship final.
