PM Modi to Honor Indian Para Champions After Asian Games Medal Surge

A delegation of Indian para-athletes is set to receive state recognition on Thursday evening at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally interact with the team at 4:30 PM and speak to the assembled audience.

The ceremony underscores the government's commitment to inclusive sports. It will feature appearances by para-sport competitors, performance directors, executives from the Indian Olympic and Paralympic committees, representatives of national federations, and officials from the sports ministry.

This recognition follows a groundbreaking campaign at the Nagoya Asian Para Games. The ninety-seven-strong Indian contingent achieved a historic best by capturing one hundred fourteen medals worldwide. The impressive collection features thirty gold, thirty-five silver, and forty-nine bronze accolades, outperforming the Hangzhou Games tally of one hundred eleven medals.

Commending the team's dedication, the Prime Minister highlighted the record-breaking scale of the victory. He noted that the unprecedented success represents a moment of profound national celebration and pays tribute to the fierce competitive spirit displayed by every participant. He further remarked that the athletes' accomplishments have successfully inspired a vast segment of the population.

In the broader competition, India secured fourth place on the overall leaderboard. Para athletics emerged as the country's strongest discipline, contributing sixty-five medals, twenty-two of which were gold. The shooting team also performed strongly, securing five medals with two gold finishes. Additionally, three golds were added through para archery and three through para badminton.

China dominated the event rankings with four hundred thirty-five medals, while Japan captured second place with one hundred eighty-six. Uzbekistan claimed the third spot with one hundred forty-five medals, and South Korea finished fifth with one hundred total awards.
