Portuguese star Quenda commits to Chelsea, eyes trophy haul

Chelsea Football Club has finalized a long‑term agreement with Portuguese prodigy Gio Vani Quenda, signing him from Sporting Lisbon until 2034. The 19‑year‑old was a key component of Sporting’s league‑and‑cup double last season and was named the 2025 Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season.

Quenda’s record‑breaking performances include becoming the youngest goal‑scorer in Sporting’s history and the youngest Portuguese player to net in a UEFA Champions League fixture. He regularly features as an attacking winger and can also slot in as a wing‑back, offering tactical flexibility to his new managers.

After the signing, Quenda said he was "thrilled to join a club with such a rich legacy" and pledged to work relentlessly under manager Javier Alonzo to help Chelsea secure more silverware. He added that playing alongside seasoned internationals will accelerate his growth.

Chelsea also announced a contract extension for academy graduate Jess Derry, binding the midfielder to the club until 2032 after a promising debut season that saw him feature in the FA Cup and Premier League.
