A weather‑affected second One Day International saw Afghanistan set a target of 300 runs after a 47‑over innings curtailed by rain. The Afghan side, having lost the toss, elected to bowl first and managed to limit Ireland’s total.

The opening partnership of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (32) and Ibrahim Jadaran added 39 runs before Gurbaz’s dismissal. A crucial 116‑run stand between Jadaran and Sedikullah Atal followed, with Atal contributing a brisk 45 off 50 balls.

Jadaran’s innings of 84 from 97 deliveries, packed with two sixes and eight fours, anchored the chase. The middle order – Rahmat Shah (30), Ajmatullah Omarzai (33), Darwish Rasooli (16) and former captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (36 off 21 balls) – propelled Afghanistan to 299/8 at the end of the 47th over.

Ireland’s bowlers struggled: Mark Adair took two wickets for 40 runs in ten overs, and Jai Mundra claimed two for 78 in nine overs. Gavin, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector each added a wicket.

The match also marked the ODI debut of Irish players Ben Callis, Jai Mundra and Barry McDonagh. With the first game washed out without a toss, Ireland now faces a must‑win scenario in the remaining fixtures to retain a chance for automatic qualification to the 2027 World Cup.
