Rajnath Singh Commends Record‑Breaking Medal Haul and Boxing Dominance

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded India’s extraordinary results at the Commonwealth Games 2026, describing the event as a “memorable chapter” in the nation’s sporting history. In a post on X, Singh highlighted the 39 medals – 13 of them gold – that propelled India to fourth place overall.

Singh emphasized the unprecedented success in boxing, where India topped the medal table and secured more gold medals than any other country in a single edition of the Games. He called this “a remarkable achievement that showcases India’s growing dominance in the ring.”

The minister also noted landmark performances in athletics, such as India’s first medals in the men’s 5,000 m and 10,000 m races, the debut decathlon podium, and a historic gold in judo. In para‑athletics, India celebrated its maiden Commonwealth Games gold in the men’s shot put F57 and recorded a double podium finish, reflecting the depth of the para‑sport ecosystem.

Singh praised the dedication of athletes, coaches and support staff, and credited the continued government investment in sports infrastructure, athlete well‑being and talent identification for turning these milestones into reality. He concluded by congratulating Team India and reiterating the nation’s pride in its champions.
