Young South African batsman Dewald Brevis has been in the spotlight recently. He impressed fans with a stellar performance in a three-match T20 series against Australia. Ravi Ashwin commented that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid a little extra to include him in their team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise clarified that this wasn’t the case, and Brevis was acquired at his base price of 75 lakh rupees. Now, Ravi Ashwin has responded to the franchise’s statement, offering his perspective.
Ashwin said on his official YouTube channel, “I would like to focus more on my cricket than social media interactions. We make videos on YouTube so we can express our views. People watch our videos, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, those who don’t watch our videos often twist our words and speak from their own minds. In today’s world, news is made from a headline or a statement.”
The veteran added, “The way Brevis is batting, Chennai Super Kings has struck gold. The decision to include him in the team was brilliant. He’s batting aggressively and hitting big sixes. Dewald Brevis can be very aggressive against spinners.”
In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings included the young player to replace the injured Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis had gone unsold in the mega auction of that season. However, Chennai gave him a spot in their team mid-season. The explosive batsman also did not disappoint his team and scored 225 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 180 and an average of 37.50. He scored 2 half-centuries this season, with his best score being 57 runs.
Recently, the three-match T20 series between Australia and South Africa concluded. Dewald Brevis was the highest run-scorer in this series. He scored 180 runs in three matches at an average of 90. This included a century and a half-century. Brevis’s best score in this series was 125 runs.
