Record 182 runs by captain Matthews leads West Indies to 299/6

At Harare Sports Club, the West Indies women's side posted a formidable 299 for six in their 50‑over innings, propelled by captain Heli Matthews' record‑breaking 182 runs.

Matthews faced 156 deliveries, striking 26 fours and two sixes, and accounted for 28 of the team's boundaries. Her opening partnership with Realiana Griman was a steady 128‑run stand, after which she forged crucial links with Shimen Campbell (adding 48 runs) and Chinelle Henry (adding 71 runs) to push the total past the 250‑run threshold.

Zimbabwe's bowlers, led by Francesca Chipare with two wickets, could not contain the onslaught. In reply, the Zimbabwean lineup fell short at 200 runs, all out in 43.3 overs. West Indies' medium‑pace bowler Modester Mupachikwa delivered 106 balls, conceding 86 runs with eight fours, while Alia Ellen captured three wickets for the opposition.

The victory handed West Indies a 1‑0 lead in the day‑long ODI series, with the remaining matches set for 27 and 30 September at the same ground.
