Rio Ngumoha’s late goal secured a dramatic 3-2 Premier League victory for Liverpool against Newcastle. The goal, scored in the 90+10th minute, sealed all three points for the team. Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, has started the new season strongly, winning their opening two matches. The triumph was built on the contributions of several players, including Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, who also scored. However, it was Ngumoha’s late goal that sealed the win and secured Liverpool’s winning start to the season. Ngumoha’s achievement places him in an elite group of players who scored their first Premier League goal at the age of 16. This puts him alongside legends who started making their mark around the same age, highlighting his significant potential. Prior to Ngumoha, only three players had scored in the Premier League before turning 17: James Vaughan, James Milner, and Wayne Rooney. Rio Ngumoha is a young English footballer of Nigerian descent. He has represented England at various youth levels, including U-15, U-16, and U-17. Known for his creativity and skill, Ngumoha primarily plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. He is praised for his mature approach despite his young age. Before joining Liverpool, Ngumoha spent eight years in Chelsea’s academy. His transfer to Liverpool reportedly caused consternation at Chelsea, who viewed him as a ‘generational talent.’ Ngumoha made his debut for Liverpool in January 2025 in an FA Cup victory against Accrington Stanley, becoming the youngest player to feature for Liverpool in the FA Cup, and the club’s youngest to make a first-team starting appearance, at 16 years and 135 days old.
