Indian cricket stalwart Rohit Sharma is poised to achieve a significant milestone in his illustrious international career. As India prepares for the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur, Sharma is on the verge of crossing 20,000 international runs. In the series opener, the experienced batter struck a valuable half-century, bringing his total to 19,959 runs across 503 matches. Just 41 more runs will see him join an elite group of Indian cricketers to achieve this feat, becoming the fourth Indian and fourteenth overall to do so.
Beyond this major achievement, Sharma also has the opportunity to overtake former South African star AB de Villiers. With de Villiers’ tally standing at 20,014 runs, Sharma needs a mere 56 runs in the upcoming match to surpass the Proteas legend. This adds another layer of anticipation to his performance. Furthermore, Sharma is nearing domestic milestones, with 4,924 ODI runs at home and 8,991 international runs within India. He requires 76 and 9 runs respectively to reach these significant numbers. Notably, scoring 14 runs would also allow him to surpass Rahul Dravid’s 9,004 international runs scored in India.
