Temba Bavuma, the captain who led South Africa to their first ICC title in 27 years, went unsold in the SA20 2025-26 auction. Despite his recent performances, no team bid for Bavuma, who also captained the team that won the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The South African Test and ODI captain played only one match last season. He has only played 5 matches in this league, scoring 85 runs at an average of 17.00.
Former England fast bowler James Anderson was also unsold in the SA20 2025-26 auction. No team showed interest in acquiring him. The 43-year-old, who holds the record for the most Test wickets by a fast bowler, was also not picked up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Anderson’s form has been less than stellar recently. Playing for Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2025, Anderson took only 2 wickets in 3 matches.
England’s veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali also failed to attract any bids in the SA20 auction. Ali, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, has been out of form recently. This might have been the reason for him remaining unsold in this league. Moeen Ali is currently playing in CPL 2025.
Former England opening batsman Jason Roy was also unsold in the SA20 auction. Roy, who played for Southern Brave in The Hundred 2025, was not picked up by any team. He didn’t perform well in The Hundred 2025, scoring only 198 runs in 8 matches at an average of 28.28, including one fifty.
Afghanistan’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also unsold. Gurbaz is currently out of form. He has scored only 132 runs in his last 10 T20I matches. Playing for KKR in IPL 2025, he scored only 74 runs in 5 matches. His previous season in SA20 wasn’t great either, scoring 151 runs at an average of 25.16 in 7 matches for Pretoria Capitals, which included one fifty.
Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman also missed out on a spot in SA20. He remained unsold. Rahman, who played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, had expressed his desire to play in this league for the first time, but no team showed interest. Rahman plays in all three formats for Bangladesh.
