Despite only playing three Sheffield Shield matches for Tasmania last summer, where he took nine wickets at 26.88, Bailey feels the bowler’s raw talent can be honed for Test cricket. He highlighted Stanlake’s impressive spell against Pakistan on a previous tour, suggesting that the fast bowler could fill a gap in Australia’s pace resources early next year, especially if injuries strike during the Indian summer.

Bailey also pointed out that the aging pace battery of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins will soon need fresh legs, and Stanlake is being groomed as a potential long‑term solution.
